c1963 SUPRO MODEL 1624

Stunning condition sixties Supro 1624 in excellent working order.

This is one of my favourite Valco-made 60s Supros - note that it is not the reissue, but a rare original.

There is much speculation about the exact identity of the Supro amp used by Jimmy Page on early Led Zeppelin recordings, with the model 24 we sold recently a strong contender; this model sounds every bit as good to me - a great vintage valve amp with a rich meaty tone and superb tremolo.

The sound of the 1624 was all over many great American records of the sixties and seventies - so much so that this model has now been reissued. The promise of the modern reissue does nothing to excite as I've yet to hear a modern mass-produced imitation of a 60s amp that bears anything but a physical resemblance. For me this is a stunning recording amp - sounds amazing with harmonica as well as guitar - sing through your harp mic with the tremolo on and you’re in classic Zep territory.

USA 110v unit - you will need a step-down transformer for use in the UK. We can supply high quality UK-made transformers and do not recommend using cheap, generic transformers with vintage gear.
